Second European conference on Xylella fastidiosa

The second scientific conference dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the main ongoing research into Xylella fastidiosa will be held in Ajaccio, Corsica, from 29-30 October 2019.
A post-conference field visit will be organised on 31 October.

Registration and the call for abstracts are now open!

Latest results from European research projects dealing with X. fastidiosa will be presented, in particular the final results from the Horizon 2020 POnTE project. The conference will also be an opportunity for participants to catch up on the latest advances and achievements of other national and transnational research activities ongoing worldwide and to discuss ways of strengthening coordination and synergies among them.
The programme will include presentations and discussions on the latest data and knowledge on X. fastidiosa, its host plants and vectors and control options. The conference will cover the most recent results of research on:

  • Biology and pathogenicity.
  • Detection and surveillance.
  • Ecology, epidemiology and modelling.
  • Insect vectors.
  • Risk assessment and assessment of impacts (including environmental and socio-economic impact).
  • Sustainable management strategies.

The conference is being organised jointly by: EFSA; the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA); the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (ANSES); the Office de l’Environnement de la Corse (OEC) through its department the Conservatoire Botanique National de Corse; the EU-funded projects POnTE, XF-ACTORS, CURE-XF and EuroXanth; and the Euphresco network for phytosanitary research coordination and funding.

Registration and call for abstracts
Researchers on Xylella-related topics are invited to register and to submit an abstract for oral or poster presentation. Risk assessors, risk managers and stakeholder representatives with relevant experience on Xylella issues are also encouraged to register their interest. Please note that if the maximum number of participants is reached, priority will be given to presenters of accepted oral or poster presentations and to ensure a geographical, gender and institutional balance of participants.

The deadline to register for the 2nd European Conference on Xylella fastidiosa and for the submission of contributions is extended until 28 April 2019.
The registration system allows the submission of only one abstract for each author. The authors interested to submit more than one abstracts are invited to send the additional abstract(s) via email to: xylella_conference@efsa.europa.eu.

Young researchers’ initiative
A limited number of fellowships will be offered to early-career researchers, to support their attendance at the conference. To be considered for this contribution, early-career researchers must:

  • be a PhD student or early career investigator i.e. someone who has obtained their PhD/doctorate (full-time equivalent) within the past eight years;
  • be affiliated to a public institute or higher education institute;
  • not be in receipt of other financial support related to attendance at the conference.

Please note that the young researchers’ initiative is only limited to participants whose abstract has been accepted for oral or poster presentation.
