The identification of the first European vectors of Xylella fastidiosa, studies on their biology and host preference have been deeply investigated in the last three years in the framework of a dedicated procurement funded by EFSA and within several tasks of the H2020 projects POnTE and XF-ACTORS.
Results are now used to implement a large-scale monitoring program carried out by CNR-IPSP and CRSFA in the demarcated areas of Apulia and supported by the Regional Government.
The data on the occurrence and stage of development of the juveniles and adults are used for providing hints and specific warnings to growers and citizens on the most appropriate timing for applying the mandatory control measures against the vector populations.
Official bulletins are weekly/biweekly published by the Regional Phytosanitary Authority with updates on the presence, stage of development and recommendations for well-targeted mechanical interventions or insecticide applications.
