Xylella Fastidiosa Active Containment Through a multidisciplinary-Oriented Research Strategy

On May 2018, 33 new positive results for Xylella fastidiosa from 25 plots of almond trees were detected in Spain in the province of Alicante. The findings occurred within the Demarcated Area, therefore the area is unchanged from the update of February 2018. At present, 138 plots with 10,620 almonds have been destroyed.

On last 14th May 2018, 33 new positive results for Xylella fastidiosa were confirmed from 25 new plots of almond trees in the province of Alicante (Spain). All the plots are within the currently declared Demarcated Area, so this area is unchanged respect to the last update (February 2018), and there are no additional nurseries or garden centers affected by the constraints of the movement. So far, 138 plots with 10,620 almonds have been destroyed.

The new positives items detected belong to municipalities where other positive detections had been notified: Alcalalí, Beniardà, Benifato, Benissa, Callosa d’En Sarrià, Confrides, Llíber, Tàrbena and Xaló.

After surveying of possible insect vectors, detection of X. fastidiosa is confirmed in 20 out of 235 individuals tested for Philaenus spumarius and in 3 out of 693 Neophilaenus campestris, all of them collected in or around infected plots of 6 different municipalities.
