The journalist Sandra Migliani visited the Lecce province (Apulia region, south of Italy), where she met olive-growers and the researchers Donato Boscia and Pierfederico La Notte from IPSP-CNR, directly on some of the fields most seriously affected by Xylella fastidiosa. The researchers showed the experimental fields where tests are carried out considering new varieties of olive that can resist the bacterium and new techniques of graft.

After the field visit, the troupe moved to the laboratories of IPSP-CNR and University of Bari, where details of the ongoing research activities were asked to Prof. Giovanni Martelli, especially referring to the testing of plants artificially inoculated with the Xf bacterium and isolated in greenhouse.

Both IPSP-CNR and the University of Bari are involved in the EU-funded project XF-ACTORS, the first research project entirely devoted to research on Xylella fastidiosa that includes 29 partners among universities and research centers from all over the world.
